Credit Notes, Prepayments, Overpayments and Unallocated Payments

Credits Drive us Crazy!

When you create and apply a credit or a payment to an invoice this reduces the amount due on that invoice and uCollect will always collect the amount due. Easy!
But the problem comes when you create a credit, overpayment, prepayment or a payment that is allocated to the contact but not to an invoice. Now we'd like to think that we can anticipate a lot of things, but we have no way of reliably knowing whether you intended that loose credit to be applied against the invoice. If we assume that it was intended to be applied we will under-collect many transactions. If we assume that it is not we run the risk of over-collecting. We're not psychic!
So we err on the side of getting paid! We ignore unallocated credits and will collect the amount due according to the invoice. If you routinely have unallocated credits in your ledger you should ensure that they are allocated prior to the time that uCollect initiates collections for your organisation.
